Teen Court Needs Volunteers

Teen Court Needs Volunteers:

  • Do you like to volunteer with community-based programs?
  • Are you looking to build your experience for a future career?
  • Is a legal career in your future?
  • Do you need to earn volunteer hours for college acceptance?

Then volunteer to participate with Teen Court. Volunteers receive training in courtroom roles.

Parents and others can volunteer for the program.  We need jurors, judges, attorneys, bailiffs and others to help the Court function.  This is a great opportunity for students, and other volunteer-oriented individuals to help youth enrolled in our program.

How it works:

We receive referrals from School Resource Officers, Law Enforcement and Department of Juvenile Justice.  After we receive the referral, we set up an intake interview and explain the program to the juvenile offender and their parent/guardian.  Then the juvenile is scheduled for a Teen Court hearing, which occurs twice a month.  The volunteer teen attorneys present the case before a judge and peer jury.  The jury then decides the sanctions based on the level of the offense using out Teen Court Sentencing Guidelines.

Contact:  Henry L. Evans at hlevans@harnett.org to volunteer.

Adult volunteers must submit to a fingerprint Criminal History Background Record Check (CHRC) background check in accordance with NC Fostering Care in NC Act, session law 2025-16.
