Harnett County to Shine Green in Support of Veterans this November
Thursday, October 22, 2026
Harnett County Government will join counties across the nation in recognizing Operation Green Light for Veterans from November 4 –11, 2026. County buildings will illuminate green to honor and show support for all veterans.
Harnett County encourages residents and local businesses to also participate in Operation Green Light by displaying a green light at their homes, buildings, or place of business.
“I would like to encourage the citizens of Harnett County, businesses, and towns to show support for Veterans by lighting our buildings green from November 4-11, 2026. By shining a green light, county government, town governments, and our citizens will let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported”, says Eric Truesdale, Director of Harnett County Veterans Services.
Operation Green Light for Veterans is a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO). The initiative encourages counties and communities to shine green lights as visible symbols that veterans are seen and supported.
“A green light is a small thing. But when thousands of counties and partners turn one on together each November, it becomes something larger,” said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase. “Operation Green Light for Veterans is a powerful signal that we see our veterans, we remember their service, and we owe them more than a thank you once a year. Their sacrifice didn’t end at discharge. Our gratitude shouldn’t either.”
Harnett County is home to over 12,000 veterans. Harnett County’s participation in Operation Green Light is one way to connect and recognize veterans and their contributions to the community.
