Harnett County Kicks Off Fall Litter Sweep and Invites Community Members to Participate this October

Thursday, October 1, 2026

Picture of volunteers for Litter SweepHarnett County is inviting residents, civic organizations, youth groups, schools, churches, local businesses and community groups to participate in the Keep Harnett Beautiful Fall Litter Sweep throughout the month of October.

Individuals are encouraged to volunteer across the county to help remove litter from roadways and community spaces, while helping to protect the county’s watersheds, farm land, and natural resources.

The Fall Litter Sweep makes a positive impact on the environment and would not be possible without the support of community members. All supplies are provided, including safety vests, bags, and litter pickers.

Keep Harnett Beautiful, a citizen volunteer effort led by the Harnett County Soil and Water Conservation District, coordinates countywide litter sweeps all year long. Volunteers can select an area they would like to clean or Keep Harnett Beautiful can recommend an area. Conducting a litter sweep can also qualify for volunteer hours and community service hours.

"Our agricultural roots and natural resources define Harnett County. Taking part in a litter sweep is about the conservation of those things, ensuring that our farms stay productive, our streams remain clean, and our soil continues to nourish for generations to come. We encourage everyone to grab a kit and lend a hand this October," said Keep Harnett Beautiful Coordinator, Morgan Pope.

To volunteer, Text LITTER to 910-514-2054 or email Keep Harnett Beautiful Coordinator, Morgan Pope at mpope@harnett.org
