Harnett County Public Library Introduces New Library Card During National Sign-Up Month

Thursday, September 4, 2025

September is National Library Card Sign-Up month, and the Harnett County Public Library System is celebrating in style with a new card design.

Picture of the Main Library branch and the Library Card sitting in the grassThe library is inviting the community to join the celebration by visiting a library branch this month and updating their account information, replacing their card, or signing up for a new card. Once patrons complete one of these tasks, they will be entered for a grand prize drawing at the end of September.

The Harnett County Public Library system has eight library branches across the County.

To add to the celebration, the library is waiving replacement fees this month. While the first card for each person is always free, replacement cards typically incur a charge. Visit any branch this month to receive a free replacement featuring the new design.

“We wanted a new library card design that celebrates the consolidation of Harnett County’s public libraries and highlights the Harnett County Public Library System as a whole,” said Morgan Gleason, Community Engagement Coordinator. “We’ve come a long way over the past few years, and this design reflects that we are now unified as one library system.”

Each library branch offers a variety of services and resources to the public. Some unique offerings of each branch include:

Anderson Creek and Boone Trail Public Libraries – Partner with Anderson Creek Primary School and Harnett County Parks and Recreation to provide books, programs, and computer access.

Angier Public Library – Offers weekly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs on Wednesdays for school age children and teens.

Benhaven Public Library – Has a year-round seed library for gardening enthusiasts or those just beginning.

Coats Public Library – Offers a Paperback Swap Collection with no library card or due dates—borrow and return at your convenience!

Dunn Public Library – Has a popular adult book club called Books & Brews that meets monthly at Coffee on Broad in Dunn.

Erwin Public Library – Has a collection of over 100 rentable board games for all ages and interests.

Main Library – Houses the Harnett County Local History Room, which includes several books of local historical interest, as well as maps, yearbooks, photographs, and obituary files that are available to view upon request.
