Volunteers Needed: Harnett County’s America 250 NC Committee

Wednesday, June 18, 2025

Harnett County has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) to participate in America’s 250th NC, a statewide initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

As part of this initiative, counties across North Carolina will showcase their unique contributions to the American story. In Harnett County, the focus will be on exploring and sharing local Revolutionary War history. Volunteers will help to perform research, identify notable individuals and events.

Throughout Spring and Summer 2026, a series of educational events and public exhibits will help bring these stories to life. To make possible, the County is forming an America’s 250th NC Committee and is currently seeking volunteers.

Residents with an interest in history, storytelling, or event planning are encouraged to get involved.

“We are excited to be a part of America 250 NC,” said Brent Trout, Harnett County Manager. “Harnett County has a rich history related to the Revolutionary War due to our namesake, Cornelius Harnett, and we want to share that history and the role of our county with our community. We look forward to all that will come from this project and will leave behind a reminder of this effort in our facilities.”

Individuals interested in joining the committee can email County Manager Brent Trout at btrout@harnett.org by Friday, July 18, 2025.
