New Fire Station opens in Northwest Harnett County
Thursday, July 25, 2024
Harnett County is proud to announce a new fire station in Northwest Harnett County. The new Northwest Harnett Station 3 will enhance the emergency response capabilities, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in the growing area.
In 2019, an Emergency Services study was conducted, and the findings highlighted a new station was needed to tackle the projected growth in Northwest Harnett County.
Northwest Fire Chief Chris Prince immediately began the process of planning for the growth by building a capital project in his 2020/2021 budget to purchase property to build the facility. The project was funded by the Northwest Harnett Fire Department through a loan.
“This new facility is going to be a great asset to our citizens and taxpayers as well as our department. It is going to allow quicker Fire and EMS response times in this growing corridor of Harnett County,” said Chris Prince, Northwest Harnett Fire Department Chief.
Construction began in July 2022 of the 11,800 sq. ft. facility, and after two years and some delays due to material shortages following the pandemic, the project is complete. The newest station is located at 8300 US Highway 401 North in Fuquay Varina.
The new Northwest Fire Station 3 provides full-time firefighting capability, and Harnett County provides 24/7 EMS coverage for the response area.
“This station will bring all of residents covered by Northwest Harnett within the 5-mile district, to include the new school, which is a cost saver on insurance for those residents but more importantly a critical lifeline for response,” said Lawrence Smith, Harnett County Emergency Services Director. “We have increased our response capabilities by staffing the new station.”
Northwest Fire Department will host a ribbon cutting later this year to celebrate the new addition.
