STD stands for sexually transmitted disease. Sometimes STDs are called sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that spread from person to person through sexual activity. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus, which is the virus that causes HIV infection. HIV is an STD.
The goal of the HIV & STD educational programs are to reduce the number of people in Harnett County who become infected with sexually transmitted diseases.
Through the Health Education Division, the Health Department provides education and risk reduction sessions along with information to the public. Public Health Educators are available to respond to requests for information and to conduct educational sessions.
