Authorization

The articles and sections of the Harnett County Voluntary Agricultural District Ordinance are adopted pursuant to authority conferred by Section 106-735 through 106-744 of Chapter 153A of the North Carolina General Statutes.

Function

The purpose of the Harnett County Voluntary Agricultural District Ordinance is to promote agricultural values and the general welfare of the county and more specifically, increase identity and pride in the agricultural community and its way of life; encourage the economic and financial health of agriculture; and increase protection from non-farm development and other negative impacts on properly managed farms.

Special Requirements

The Advisory Board shall consist of one representative from each Commissioner's District plus two additional at-large members. All will be appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Each member shall be a Harnett County resident or landowner, a minimum of five members shall be actively engaged in farming with the two remaining members from agri-business or agricultural-related interests.
