The Harnett County Veterans Council will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30 at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located 299 West Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Lillington, in front of the Harnett County Resource Center & Library.

The guest speaker at this year’s ceremony will be Lieutenant Colonel Shawn P. Polonkey, Battalion Commander of the 27th Engineer Battalion (Airborne) at Fort Bragg.

This year’s ceremony will also include a presentation of the colors by Harnett Central JROTC, service flag presentation, recognition of Gold Star Mothers and Families, and a wreath laying ceremony along with the playing of “Taps”. Harnett County Veterans Council President Amy Noel will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

“Memorial Day is a day when we come together to honor and remember our servicemen and women who answered America’s call to service and paid the ultimate price,” said Amy Noel, President of the Harnett County Veterans Council. “It’s a day when our entire country should come together to stand up and say, ‘Thank you. We remember you. We are grateful to you.”

The ceremony will take place rain or shine, and will be moved indoors to the Harnett County Resource Center & Library in the event of inclement weather. Refreshments will be provided in the Resource Center & Library following the ceremony.
