Harnett County Announces New Director of Economic Development

Christian Lockamy to Begin on January 3, 2022

Harnett County Board of Commissioners announced Christian Lockamy as the new Director of Economic Development for Harnett County.

The hiring of a new Director of Economic Development follows the County’s recent completion of the Strong Roots, Smart Growth Economic Development Plan. The efforts of this new plan focus on cultivating a strategic process for economic development and growth throughout the County that aligns with the recommendations from the County’s 2015 Grow Harnett County Comprehensive Plan.

“I am very excited to welcome Mr. Lockamy to our staff as Economic Development Director,” stated Harnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Lewis Weatherspoon. “Mr. Lockamy comes highly recommended to us. His credentials are outstanding, and I feel confident that he will be an invaluable asset to the Harnett County.”

Chairman Weatherspoon continued, “In conversations with Mr. Lockamy, his enthusiasm for the job and desire to hit the ground running is refreshing to say the least. I am also impressed with his knowledge of what an airport, such as Harnett Regional Jetport, can mean to the county in our economic growth efforts.”

As the new Director, Lockamy and his team will focus on the implementation of this new economic development strategy for the County.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Harnett County family. We have amazing people, educational institutions, progressive leadership, and the right assets to win all day long in economic development,” stated Lockamy. “I’m looking forward to working with the Board of Commissioners, Economic Development Council-Properties Corporation, Economic Development staff, and our existing companies and businesses.”

Lockamy has 20 years of experience working for City and County governments in North Carolina, serving over 9 years in progressively responsible roles in economic development.

Lockamy has directed economic development efforts for Greenville (Pitt County), Elizabeth City (Pasquotank County), and Henderson (Vance County). His experience involves the recruitment and competitive expansions of companies, managing public-private partnerships, coordinating incentive packages, leading strategic planning efforts, authoring incentive policies, the pursuit and purchase of new industrial sites and buildings, and workforce development initiatives.

Lockamy’s first day as Director of Economic Development for Harnett County will be January 3, 2022.

Lockamy is a graduate of East Carolina University and a United States Navy Veteran.
