Three State Organizations Offering Grant Funding Opportunities for the Harnett County Area

Harnett County residents, community organizations, and local businesses will have the opportunity to apply for funding assistance during the next two months with the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, NC Housing Finance Agency, and the NC Community Foundation. These three organizations oversee grant programs that assist the community with emergency home repairs, Hurricane Florence disaster relief, and agriculture support for tobacco farms. All grant programs do have eligibility requirements and are accepting applications online.

2019 Tobacco Trust Fund Commission Grant
Supporting the agricultural industry, impacting rural communities and stimulating economic development are key objectives for the 2019 NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission (NCTTFC) grant cycle.  Funds will be awarded in the fall of 2019 for selected innovative projects.

Application information is now online at www.tobaccotrustfund.org for qualifying organizations.  Past NCTTFC projects includes farmers market improvements, cost-share grant programs for farmers, training for qualified farm family members in community colleges and support of more than 30 high school agricultural education programs.

More information can be found at the NCTTFC’s website listed above, or by calling 919-733-2160.  The deadline for applications submission is 5pm on March 8, 2019.

NC Housing Finance Agency Urgent Repair Program
North Carolina Housing Finance Agency proposes to make a total of $4.5 million available for the 2019 Urgent Repair Program (URP19). Program funding enables recipient organizations to provide deferred, forgiven loans of up to $10,000 for emergency home repairs and modifications to very low-income owner-occupied homes. Eligible households are those with one or more full-time household members with special needs (e.g., elderly, disabled, and/or veteran full-time household members or a child 6 or under with an elevated blood-lead level). Household incomes cannot exceed 50% of area median income.

Nonprofit organizations, local governments and regional councils of government with the technical capacity to manage residential construction projects are eligible to apply. Eligible applicants must cover service areas with a population of 5,000 or greater. Application forms and guidelines will be available on the Agency’s website at www.nchfa.com.

Completed applications must be received at the Agency by 5 p.m. January 28, 2019. For more information, please call Mike Handley, 919-877-5627, Chuck Dopler, 919-981-5008, Donna Coleman, 919-981-5006, Kim Hargrove, 919-877-5682, or Dan McFarland, 919-875-3753.

North Carolina Community Foundation
The Harnett County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation, is currently accepting funding requests for long-term disaster relief and recovery related specifically to Hurricane Florence.  Churches and government agencies assisting Harnett County citizens are eligible as long as requests are not infrastructure related or denominationally specific. Interested organizations would need to provide an email or letter request stating the purpose of funds needed, amount of funding, and basic information such as tax ID numbers and contact information.  Funding request amounts could be anywhere from $1,000-$30,000. The organization must also have the capacity to administer a grant of any size and to adhere to the guidelines of the program. There is no deadline, and the grant review process will be on a rolling basis as opposed to a one time cycle.
