Harnett County Accepting Nominations for Governor’s Volunteer Service Award

Nominations must be received by Jan. 4, 2019, for consideration

Harnett County is currently accepting nominations for the 2019 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award.

The awards program recognizes individuals, groups and businesses that make a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. Any person, group, or entity from the public, nonprofit and private sector may be nominated for an award to their county award coordinator. County award coordinators submit their top 10 volunteer nominations per county. There are categories for the type of nominee (senior, youth, faith-based, family, group, business, etc.). Additional categories are based upon the area of service (animal, environmental, disaster, youth, preservation, etc.).

One nominee from each county will be submitted for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service. A local committee evaluates nominations to select which nominee will be submitted to the Governor’s Office. A statewide panel then reviews and evaluates nominations submitted by the counties to determine the award recipients, who will be honored at an annual recognition ceremony.

Through the years, the award has been bestowed upon thousands of North Carolinians who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local community. If you would like to nominate someone, nomination forms are available at all libraries in Harnett County and the Harnett County Division on Aging at 309 West Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Lillington. Forms may also be completed online at https://www.nc.gov/agencies/volunteer/volunteer-awards. The website also provides more information on the awards program, including tips for writing an effective award nomination. Online nominations will automatically be sent to local award coordinators.

Completed nomination forms should be returned to the Harnett County Division on Aging no later than January 4, 2019. Forms may be hand-delivered to the office or mailed to: Attention Mary Jane Sauls, 309 W. Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Lillington, NC 27546. Contact the Division on Aging at (910) 893-7578 with any questions. For more information about volunteer opportunities in Harnett County, go to http://www.harnett.org/aging/default.asp.
