May 8, 2018 Primary Election Information

The Harnett County Board of Elections would like to make the County’s residents aware of the following information related to the upcoming May 8, 2018 Primary Election.

Election Day

A primary election will be held on May 8, 2018. Polls will open at 6:30 a.m. and will close at 7:30 p.m.

Early Voting Times and Locations

One-stop early voting will begin Thursday, April 19 and will end Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. During this time, early voting will be available at the following times and locations:

  • Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Harnett County Board of Elections at 308 W. Duncan St., Lillington
  • Saturdays, April 21 and April 28 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Harnett County Board of Elections; the Western Harnett High School gym at 10637 N.C. 27 W., Lillington; the Erwin Community Building at 110 W. F St., Erwin; the Angier Elementary School gym at 130 E. McIver St., Angier; and Anderson Creek Primary School at 914 Anderson Creek School Road, Bunnlevel
  • Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Harnett County Board of Elections, Western Harnett High School gym, Erwin Community Building, Angier Elementary School gym and Anderson Creek Primary School
  • Sundays, April 22 and April 29 from 1 until 5 p.m. at the Harnett County Board of Elections

Ballot Information

Voters will receive a primary ballot that corresponds to their party affiliation; however, unaffiliated voters may select a primary ballot for either party.

Even if a race will be contested in the general election, only those races with a contested primary will appear on the primary ballot. Because there are no contested Libertarian primary races in Harnett County, there are no Libertarian primary ballots.

Registration and Absentee Voting Deadlines

The deadline to register to vote or update existing registration information to be effective for the May 8 Primary Election is Friday, April 13 at 5 p.m., however voters may register or update registration information during one-stop early voting.

The deadline to request a civilian absentee ballot by mail for the 2018 Primary Election is Tuesday, May 1 at 5 p.m. Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the Harnett County Board of Elections by 5 p.m. on Election Day.
